Be a HERO
As a Housing Emergency Response Operative - or HERO - (see what we did!), you’ll be crucial in making sure the people in power sit up and take note. You'll be placed on the frontline of campaign-related communications, be the first to receive updates from us, and have the opportunity to support campaigns as they unfold. Things change in government from moment to moment and our campaigning must be reactive to this.
As a HERO, you’ll receive texts with actions you can take that will add power to our campaigns. This could be:
-
an urgent petition that needs your signature
-
a blog post to read and share outlining our stance on government decisions
-
an opportunity to share your own experience with us
-
any other campaign development!
You can text us back directly if you spot something you think you could help with.
Want to donate?
Please donate now. You could help provide urgent advice when it is most needed.
For someone at risk of homelessness, our support and advice can be the difference between finding emergency accommodation or spending a night in their car.
Your donation could help:
-
a child living in temporary accommodation find a safe place to call home
-
equip a family with the knowledge they need to secure a safe place to call home.
Your donation won’t be restricted to a single project but will be used wherever it’s needed most to help those fighting for their right to a safe home.
Donate to a Shelter shop
We are always grateful for donations to our Shelter shops; everything we receive helps us to do more for families facing bad housing and homelessness.

How to donate your goods
We welcome donations of good quality, second-hand items to all of our shops, and you can post your pre-loved goods to us for free.
You can drop off your items in person to our shops during opening hours. But if you have bulky items or a lot to donate, please do call ahead to make sure we will be able to accept your donation in store.
If space allows, our shops can occasionally accept donations of furniture. However, this depends on the individual store, so please phone ahead to check that we will be able to accept your donation.
You can also sign up online to add Gift Aid to your donations to your local Shelter shop.
